Deal almost done for govt formation in JK with ‘like-minded people'

Two months after the PDP-BJP government collapsed in Jammu and Kashmir, a new alliance is on cards to end Governor’s Rule.
On Thursday, BJP’s Kashmir minder Ram Madhav held a meeting with his state unit leaders in Srinagar, after which they met Peoples Conference chief Sajjad Lone, who has emerged as likely choice for leading the fresh alliance.

A senior BJP leader, who was part of the meeting, confirmed that a new government would be formed in the state with “like-minded” people by August-end.
A formal announcement is likely to occur by last week of this month or in the first week of September, Kashmir Reader has learnt.
The BJP has waited for two months as its priority was to ensure smooth conduct of the Amarnath Yatra, which is ending this month.

A source said that Madhav was told by state BJP leaders that they are averse to forging alliance again with the PDP, even though it was reportedly on Madhav’s suggestion that the PDP abstained from voting in the Rajya Sabha election for deputy chairman. A New Delhi-based newspaper had reported that Madhav and JD(U) leaders convinced the PDP to abstain from voting in the election.
The state BJP leaders made it clear to Madhav that they did not want to team up with the PDP again.
“Many people approached us.

We weighed options and soon a meeting will be called in Delhi by the top leadership about securing the deal,” a BJP leader said.
It was learnt that a former PDP minister had showed willingness to forge alliance with the BJP by leading a revolt in his party. However, the rebel legislators that he hoped to lead did not fall in line with his plan.

Initially, soon after the demise of the PDP-BJP alliance, six PDP legislators led by popular Shia leader Imran Ansari had come out against party chief Mehbooba Mufti for promoting “nepotism”. Since then, the ranks of disgruntled members have swelled, increasing the troubles of the PDP which has started a process of “restructuring the party”.
